Life is a journey, much like a roller coaster ride – full of twists, turns, and the occasional scream!
I’m currently on an adventure that started off with my gut (that trusty second brain of mine) doing backflips. It whispered sweet nothings about reconsidering my tight travel itinerary, but did I listen? Nope! I charged ahead like a brave knight, armed only with a suitcase and a snack selection that could rival any questionable petrol station’s 24 hour shop.
What followed was a whirlwind of stress and uncertainty that aged me faster than fine cheese left out in the sun.
Yet, amidst the chaos, I stumbled upon invaluable lessons about trusting myself, letting go of control, and — most importantly – finding joy in the ride – even when it feels like a bumpy road!
The Power of Intuition
Our instincts are like our personal GPS, recalibrating us back on track when we stray. Shaped by our experiences and emotions, how often do we ignore our internal compass in favour of someone else’s opinion? Too often, I say! We second-guess ourselves like we’re auditioning for a role in a soapie called “Doubt and Confusion.”
As event professionals, honing this skill is crucial. Our work demands quick decision-making, much like a game of Tetris ….uhhhm … showing my age here, I mean Candy Crush!
Trusting our instincts helps us navigate unexpected challenges, whether it’s a last-minute venue change or a rogue microphone that decides to go mute.
What I am learning from my current escapade is that trusting our instincts isn’t just about making decisions; it’s about believing in ourselves. When we listen to our inner voice, we align with our true desires – kind of like finally figuring out what toppings to put on that pizza!
Letting Go of Control
Ah, the art of relinquishing control – like trying to catch a rugby ball smeared in Vaseline!
The unpredictability of travel can be both exhilarating and daunting. Delayed flights? Check. Uncomfortable airlines? Check. Visa and luggage near-misses? Double-check!
But here’s the kicker: life is about embracing the unknown and finding joy in the ride.
Imagine standing in front of a window, peering out into the world beyond.
You can only see so much from that vantage point, and just like our plans, the view can shift in an instant.
Trying to control every detail of our travels – or our events – can lead to stress levels rivalling what a zebra would feel in a tiny room full of lions.
Instead, let’s adopt a mindset that welcomes flexibility!
When we let go of the illusion of control, we open ourselves to new experiences, spontaneous adventures, and connections we might have missed – like incredible people I have been able to spend time with this week and enjoying the most incredible sunset I have ever experienced in my life!
Enjoying the Journey
Ultimately, life – and let’s face it, the events we host, produce, and or manage – isn’t just about the destination; it’s about the experiences we gather along the way. Each moment, whether filled with joy or challenge, contributes to our personal growth. Embracing the journey means recognising that it’s okay to make mistakes – because let’s be real, nobody’s perfect!
So, the next time you find yourself at a crossroads, take a moment to listen. Trust your instincts – they know you better than your favourite pair of stretchy pants! And remember, it’s perfectly alright to let go of control. Life is an adventure meant to be savoured, so why not enjoy the ride?
In the end, we are all travellers in this beautiful, unpredictable journey called life. Let’s embrace our instincts and the freedom of letting go, allowing us to fully experience the wonders that await us – even if they sometimes come with a side of chaos. Just like gazing through a window, the view may change, but the beauty of the journey remains ever-present.
Commit to trusting yourselves and embracing the spontaneity of your work, creating unforgettable experiences for ourselves and those we serve. And who knows? You might just find that the journey is the best part of the adventure!
